Dear 5th Grade Parent,
Hello! I will be your child’s fifth grade reading and/or homeroom teacher this year. My teammates and I are looking forward to a great year with all our students.
In 1998, I graduated from Tarleton State University with a Bachelor’s in English, and received my teaching certification (EC-6) five years ago. This will be my sixth year teaching, and all have been here at Tolar Elementary as the fifth grade reading teacher. I enjoy this age group, and reading is my favorite subject so I feel lucky to have this position. My daughters and I have lived in Tolar for 16 years now, and they attend school at the high school.
Please check out our school website www.tolarisd.org and sign up for parent portal and E-alerts. Also, from the school website you can link to my website. You will find spelling words and links to useful websites. We will have spelling tests that count as a daily grade. Just like other daily assignments, your child will have the opportunity to correct a failing grade on a spelling test (see grading policy in packet). It will be up to them to both correctly and neatly spell the misspelled(s) word 7 times each. We will go over this in class and get the routine established.
Empathy is a concept I teach our students, and in addition to challenging them academically, I hope to help cultivate in them this powerful character trait. We will practice this with themes in our novel studies and other lessons throughout the school year. I think the opportunity to teach empathy and “thinking outside the box” are my favorite concepts in teaching.
Email me with any questions or concerns. (firstname.lastname@example.org). I am here for your child. Please know that my goal is to help your child succeed with his or her education, and also treat each with love, respect, and empathy-just as I want my children to be treated by their teachers.
Thank you for sharing your child and I look forward to a fantastic school year.
Mrs. Kelly Camacho
